We Came By Sea by Horatio Clare
We Came By Sea reflects Britain as an island of migrants – recent and ancient –
with history of championing dissidents and human rights. Using his journalist skills, Horatio Clare explores the Calais ‘jungle’, the dinghy crossings, the Dover landings, the rescue teams, the boat ‘hotel’. Taking us through the ups and downs of people in desperation, the actions of fearful government, the anti-brigades, the volunteers and some ‘officials’ giving their all. And why? Why do migrants face the risks of coming to unfriendly and economically severe Britain? And the common thread: “that Britain is a safe and free place”. Clare’s mission is to highlight our true British – greater British – character of being
compassionate and proud of justice.
